The basic design of the album cover is based on the volumetric nature of a gatefold and the techniques of cube mapping. While the ‘Dream House’ letters seem to float in this magenta space, one might also evoke concrete poetry or the sound/light-environments of the Fluxus-inspired artists La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela. This gatefold indeed is show-casing the simultaneous interweaving of different media spheres. Referring to Marshall McLuhan’s attempts at a poetic media archeology published in the renowned „Something Else Press“, Florian Auer’s work could be considered a „Verbi-Voco-Visual Exploration“: the cover builds sound as word and time (audio-spaciousness) and simultaneously as image and space (three-dimensionality). This sound cube, however, does not even try to immerse you into the sweaty intensity of a music club nor does it promise any blurry yet golden heterotopia. At first glance, the cover is more reminiscent of the latest consumer brand aesthetics. These magenta spaces create the feeling that even the blurring of boundaries creates a new, specific spatiality. At the same time, this special edition box, folding in and out that space itself, is an effect of tension and release, compression and distension and production and consumption. Just as the fading words materialize into „Dream House“ in their literality, the sound itself becomes a musical object; a sound sculpture.
